Privacy policy

SpareScreen is built to collect as little as possible. This page explains exactly what is collected and why.
Your screen
The picture of your screen goes straight from your Mac to your other device over your own Wi-Fi. It never passes through our servers and we can't see it.
Trial and license checks
To run the free trial and license keys, the app sends our server an anonymous Mac ID (a one-way scrambled code made from your Mac's hardware ID; it can't be turned back into the original) and, if you have one, your license key. We store when the trial started on that Mac and which Mac IDs use each key.
Purchases
Payments in India are handled by Razorpay under their privacy policy; outside India, by Paddle.com as Merchant of Record under their privacy policy. From them we receive the payment ID, the amount and currency, and for Razorpay the email address you entered at checkout. We keep these with your license key so we can help if you lose it or ask for a refund. We never receive your card or bank details.
Optional problem reports
Only if you agree, when SpareScreen itself runs slowly the app sends an anonymous report: timing numbers, the SpareScreen and macOS versions, and the Mac model. Never your screen, files, name or anything that identifies you. Reports are deleted after 90 days. You can turn this on or off anytime in the SpareScreen menu.
Problem reports you send
When you choose Report a Problem in the app, or use the form on the Help page, we receive what you write, your email if you give one, the SpareScreen and macOS versions, and the Mac model. From the app it also includes SpareScreen's log from the last 3 hours and the list of connected screens (sizes and positions), which you can read before sending. It never includes your screen's picture, files or passwords. These reports are deleted after 180 days, and we only use your email to reply about the problem.
This website
No ads. To see how many people get from visiting to buying, our own server counts steps such as a page visit, viewing the price, downloading, clicking Buy, and whether the checkout was completed, failed or closed. Each count stores only the date, your country and the payment provider used; never your IP address, a cookie, or anything that identifies you. The app likewise counts when a free trial starts and when a key is activated, with the country only.
We also use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (pages and sections viewed, how far you scroll, which questions you open, downloads and purchases). Outside the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland it sets Google's first-party analytics cookies; inside those regions it runs without cookies. Advertising features are turned off. Google processes this data under its privacy policy; you can opt out with Google's opt-out add-on.
The site is hosted by Cloudflare and loads fonts from Google Fonts, which see your IP address as part of normal web traffic. After a purchase your key is saved in your own browser so it stays on the page.
What we don't do
We don't sell or share your information with anyone, other than Razorpay and Paddle for payments.
Your choices
Email support@getsparescreen.com to see or delete what we hold about you. Deleting a license record means the key stops working on new Macs.
