Use a Galaxy Tab as a Mac monitor

Samsung's built-in Second Screen feature is made for Windows PCs, so it can't extend a Mac's screen. SpareScreen can: your Galaxy Tab opens a link in Samsung Internet or Chrome and becomes a wireless second screen for your Mac.

Install on your Mac: paste this into Terminal

Click to copy. Uses Homebrew, a free and widely trusted installer for Mac apps. 7 days free, then $7.99 once.

How to set it up

  1. Install SpareScreen on your Mac with the line above. It opens in the menu bar.
  2. Allow Screen Recording when macOS asks. That lets SpareScreen show the extra screen on your Galaxy Tab.
  3. Open the link in Samsung Internet or Chrome. Click SpareScreen in the menu bar to see the link and its QR code, then open it on the Galaxy Tab. Both need to be on the same Wi-Fi.
  4. Click Allow on the Mac. An extra screen appears, shaped exactly like your Galaxy Tab. Drag windows onto it like any monitor.

Tap the tablet once to go full screen. Rotating the tablet reshapes the extra screen after a few seconds.

Which Galaxy Tabs work?

Any Galaxy Tab with an up-to-date Samsung Internet or Chrome: the S series (S6 Lite, S7, S8, S9 and later), the A series, and older models that still open modern websites. You don't need One UI's Second Screen feature or a Samsung account.
